Senators want US President Barack Obama to address Parliament during his visit in July.
While
responding to a statement by Senate Security Committee Vice-Chairperson
Fatuma Dullo, the senators said they want the government to facilitate
the process so that President Obama can address the House.
They also sought to know the purpose of the visit.
Ms
Dullo told the House President Obama will be attending a Global
Entrepreneurship Summit, an annual international event that Kenya will
host this year.
She said President Obama will also hold
bilateral talks with President Kenyatta on trade, security, energy and
other important issues affecting both countries.
“The
government will use the visit discuss emerging investment options, forge
collaborations and increase economic opportunities, particularly for
our upcoming entrepreneurs,” Ms Dullo said in response to Dr Boni
Khalwale (Kakamega, UDF).
She said the forum would help develop strategies to address terrorism threats.
“Terrorism
is a global phenomenon that requires collective partnerships. The two
countries share identical views on threats posed by terrorists.
Sharing of intelligence to combat attacks would be part of the talks,” said Ms Dullo.
Meanwhile, it remained unclear if Mr Obama would visit his father’s home in Kogelo.
