The MP who emerged with the highest approval rating from his constituents in a survey by Infotrak attributes the vote to his being “a simple, local guy.”
Emuhaya MP Wilberforce Ottichilo, who was ranked highest in the survey told the Nation that he spends most of his time discussing local problems with his constituents.
“I do not walk around with heavy security, I attend funerals, weddings and you would not even know I am an MP,” he said.
“The trick here is that I am totally with the people.
“I listen to them, try to offer solutions and I have made it clear that I am not an ATM.
“I have proven that I am an honest man,” said Dr Ottichilo.
In the survey, Dr Ottichilo, an environmental enthusiast, emerged the best with 79.9 per cent approval rating.
But he says he made a “strategy” immediately he was voted in in 2013 for the second term.
“When I got elected, the first thing I did was to sit down with the people to lay a strategy.
“I held meetings from sub-location to sub-county level. People were involved in all projects,” he said.
He
went ahead to state how he involved the constituents in budgeting
constituency funds and how he has been instrumental in influencing rural
electrification programmes, security and roads.
“Emuhaya
has 100 per cent rural electrification, I sat down with local police
chiefs to ensure there are more police posts. The roads are now better
in the constituency.”
