A 46-year-old woman is being held at Amuria Central Police
Station under protective custody for allegedly attempting to take her
life using poison.
It is alleged that the woman, a resident of
Akoromit in Amuria District, is said to have taken poison last Saturday
after she allegedly suffered persistent ill-treatment from her
daughter-in-law.
“I was hoping that in my state of being a widow, she was the right person to help me but instead, it is the reverse,” she said. She said despite buying a plot and starting a family for the son and the wife, her daughter in-law, does not appreciate her role, barks at her young children calling them bastards and her, a prostitute.
“I felt I couldn’t tolerate this anymore,” she added.
